BELLEFONTE — The Centre County Library and Historical Museum announced the launch of its annual fundraising campaign that will help support local libraries in Bellefonte, Centre Hall and Philipsburg in the new year.
A goal of $36,000 is set for the campaign that will run through January 2025, which will be put toward acquiring new books and digital resources for the libraries, as well as funding library programming and more.
“Our libraries don’t just exist for the community, they exist because of the community,” Beth Schwartz, Centre County Library and Historical Museum communications manager, shared. “Community members decorate the grounds of our library locations, shelve the books at the libraries, organize and inventory the various collections, and so much more.”
In a press release, the Centre County Library and Historical Museum reminded that “libraries can only function with community support.” Though the libraries receive some government support, private donors, organizations and businesses also contribute to help ensure the Centre County community has access to libraries across the county.
“Every contribution matters — whether it’s helping add one more book to the shelves or ensuring the buildings stay heated,” the release stated.
In addition to providing access to books and digital resources, the Centre County Library and Historical Museum noted in the release that they help with child academic and emotional development, local history preservation and invest back into the community by supporting local business and those applying to jobs. They also provide community spaces and access to free technology.
